Netscape 8: Extensions-plugins
Extensions are small add-ons that add new functionality to your Netscape program. They can add anything from a toolbar button to a completely new feature. Plugins are programs that allow websites to provide content to you and have it appear in your browser. Examples of Plugins are Flash, RealPlayer, and Java. Sometimes people do not understand the difference and mix the words so extensions are still commonly named also plug-ins.

Most popular Firefox extensions

Here are the most popular Firefox extensions ported to Netscape 8. I have made a selection from the first 30 most popular. That means I did not include extensions of which functionality is already featured in NS8 such as ieview and TabX. Download Manager Tweak and Mouse Gestures do not work under NS8 so they could not be ported and therefore are not included here (there are enough other). Also not included here extensions which were already ported by their original authors, such as FlashGot, Forecastfox, StumbleUpon and SmoothWheel. For now they are in open directories, I will make something more sophisticated in the future. There are three directories: working_fine, damaging_pt and question. Working fine says it all. Those located in damaging_pt are unfortunately spoiling the Personal Toolbar (as shown on this screenshot) in NS8 when using the default Fusion theme. But they are working fine with Modern Modoki theme (which is my default theme and I highly recommend it), Winscape or Qutescape theme. So you can use tham with one of this themes or live with the minor graphic problem with Fusion. In the question directory are located a few extensions which "seems to be working" but I could not found out their purpose, respectively test tham successfully and as I do not want to spend rest of my life hacking it, you are free to test tham and give me feedback.

My favourite extensions

Here are my favourite Firefox extensions ported to Netscape 8. These extensions are IMHO the most useful. Some of tham could be found also in the previous directories. For now they are in open directories, I will make something more sophisticated in the future. I use tham on my computers, so they are pretty good tested and I am pretty sure they will work fine. Not included here extensions which were already ported by their original authors, such as MR Tech Local Install.
